A nine-note handpan tuned to the Indian Raga Desh – a raga much loved in Indian music and closely associated with the monsoon. This scale lets you play expressive, melodic phrases with an unmistakably Indian flavour, perfect for meditation, sound healing and Indian classical or devotional music.
Chirp Handpans were started in Bangalore, Karnataka by Chirag Vaitheeswaran, one of the first Indian handpan players, after more than five years of research into the science and art of singing steel. Each instrument is crafted from carefully selected nitrided and stainless steel, is rust resistant and has a stable tuning architecture. Every tone field is tuned with its fundamental, octave and twelfth (the fifth above the octave) within 10 cents, and each handpan takes over 72 hours of skilled hammering.
