A ten-note handpan in the popular Kurd scale, with an extra note that extends the range at the top. The Kurd scale has a soulful, minor character that is both melancholic and uplifting, and the additional note gives you more room for melodies – a wonderful choice for players who want to grow beyond a nine-note instrument.
Chirp Handpans were started in Bangalore, Karnataka by Chirag Vaitheeswaran, one of the first Indian handpan players, after more than five years of research into the science and art of singing steel. Each instrument is crafted from carefully selected nitrided and stainless steel, is rust resistant and has a stable tuning architecture. Every tone field is tuned with its fundamental, octave and twelfth within 10 cents, and each handpan takes over 72 hours of skilled hammering.
