This is a simple 2 stringed instrument also sometimes called a "dotar" It is made of a hollow tube inserted into a gourd, with the bridge sitting on a tightened skin head. It is usually used to provide a droning, rhythmic accompaniment to chants or kirtans. What we call a "dotar" is this.

The Ektar is lightweight and easy to handle. The sound is clear and pleasant for simple music practice. Overall, a nice instrument for beginners and regular use.
